Changelog 14-05-2013

Too bad, changes in this blog is a feature regression from before. The change is about security. As we know, there are ongoing wars on Botnet. The most recorded battle was last time when all of the known WordPress-based blog being attacked all around the world. So, in reaction of that, Blog Mahasiswa will have to protect itself:

  • Events Manager is being shut. Nobody had ever used it.
  • Some unmaintained blogs are being attacked because of their popularity. We delete them because Google had warn us about injection.
  • Some tuning in security.
  • Daily updates of themes and plugins.

As our commitment, we will give the best experience for Blog Mahasiswa bloggers. It will always be a balance between security and features.

Have fun blogging!

Changelog 07-08-2012

This shall the new dawn of blogging! This is a major update from Buddypress 1.5.x to 1.6 version. What’s the different between version better be explained by this page. Some major things:

  • Buddypress toolbar is being deprecated, now we are using the default wordpress toolbar. Toolbar is that tiny bar up when you login into the side.
  • Akismet integration, not yet be done here.
  • Upgrading the database to use UTF-8. Hopefully this will splat the bug for some students not being able to have his/her blog created automatically.
  • Some internal updates of themes that so many we lost track of them.

Enjoy. Oh, btw, the main pages are moderated. Your comment will not be published until agreed.

Changelog 28-06-2012

“What a nice day to drop out” updates. This might be the last update before OBM (new student’s orientation). Would have feature freeze until then. The list:

  • Upgrade WPMU LDAP to 3.1.1. This fixes a longstanding bug that made people not properly being redirected. Yay!
  • Upgrade WordPress engine to 3.4.1.
  • Upgrade Event Manager & bunch of plugins.
  • Upgrade Suffusion and iFeature themes. Those are the handy dandy theme that could be explored more if you want a fully customizable theme.

Empower your MHS blog and send us your (positive) suggestions.

Have a nice day!

Changelog 14-06-2012

Everything “Green”!

We update the WordPress engine to 3.4. It enables:

  • Live preview of editing themes (for newer themes, e.g. Twenty Eleven).
  • Custom headers.
  • Embedding a tweet.
  • Better image caption.

Take your site to the next level. Anything broken just email us.  Enjoy!

Tutorial: embedding a tweet. Copy a tweet URL, e.g.

https://twitter.com/univ_indonesia/status/213109836857081856

and paste it into a post in HTML mode (don’t paste it in the Visual mode). It will becomes like the example above.

Changelog 12-04-2012

  • Change event link behavior.

A new update. I change the default behavior of an event detail link into a page in main site instead of linking it directly into sub sites. This is a workaround if main site and sub site using different slug.

For instance, our main site uses “kegiatan” as the default slug, meaning events should be accessed at “http://mhs.blog.ui.ac.id/kegiatan/” page. While default Events Manager slug is “events” resulting sub site such as my blog uses URL: “http://mhs.blog.ui.ac.id/jan20/events/”. And that gives an error for people clicking on the page. It would redirected into “http://mhs.blog.ui.ac.id/jan20/kegiatan/event-page-example/” which would return error 404 (page not found).

Of course, another workarounds are 1) the main site use default slug; or 2) sub sites change their slug to have the same slug as main site. I prefer the former because it would not wise to hinder new user.

All in all, Event Manager could be a better tool for students for broadcasting their UKM/any UI related events to people. I wish we could use this well.

Suggestion?

Changelog 03-04-2012

Changelog of nothing big. Yet, just an accumulative changelog worthy of not mentioning.

  • Update Buddypress for security fix.
  • Regular update Event Manager.
  • Update for themes. The winner of constantly updated theme goes to iFeature.
  • Update for WordPress Importer. A plugin for importing your post from wordpress.com and vice versa.

This blog engine is constantly updated to reflect security fixes on upstream, but no worthy updates with new feature. Still, happy safe blogging.
