THE-QS World University Ranking
International study trend shows that demand of international education is increasing rapidly. It is said that higher education becoming more global. In 2003, estimated that 3.1 million students studied internationally. To illustrate international competitiveness in education, Times Higher Education magazine initiated to list top 500 universities worldwide since 2004.
In line with the DGHE goals to increase quality education, on 10th of May 2008, DGHE invited Times Higher Education – QS, Elsevier Publisher and QS Asia Pacific Regional Director to have a discussion with leaders of Indonesian Tertiary Education, about QS and their methodology in making the order. It is said that based on the primary and secondary data collected, the rank is ordered based on four key elements, namely: 1. Research quality (peer review 40% and citation per faculty 20%) 2. Graduate employability (recruiter review 10%) 3. International outlook (based on 5% international Faculty and 5% of International student) 4. Teaching quality (20%). The ranking will, then, be evaluated each year. It is believed that listed among top 500 universities around the world confirmed the university achievements in international context, as quoted from Prof. Shih statement, President of National University of Singapore: “World University Ranking can help differentiate the active,…..from the dormant volcanoes”
